Los Cuates Supermercado in Hollister is a blend of a traditional Mexican grocery store and a casual taqueria, offering a snapshot of local Hispanic culture through its food and market goods. Located on San Felipe Road, it draws in a mix of folks looking for authentic ingredients alongside a quick, hearty meal.

The supermarket side feels like a practical stop for anyone who cooks at home and wants access to Mexican staples—from fresh produce to meats and specialty items. The butcher’s counter stands out, catering to customers who prefer meat cut and prepared on site. That said, the market space is functional rather than polished, with some customers noting a need for better upkeep, especially around produce aisles. Visitors looking for a deep dive into authentic groceries will find plenty of options but should be prepared for a no-frills shopping experience.

Attached to the market is the taqueria, which many consider the highlight. It’s a straightforward, clean spot set up for quick service, open 24 hours, making it a go-to for early risers or late-night cravings. The menu is focused on hearty Mexican comfort food like tacos, burritos, and fries with generous portions and fresh, well-seasoned meat. The California Burrito and pastor fries come highly recommended by locals, and the inclusion of horchata adds a refreshing touch to the meal.

Atmosphere-wise, the taqueria can feel lively and a bit bustling, especially with music that sometimes runs loud enough to make conversation a challenge. This detail might influence whether you choose to dine in or take your order to go. The staff tends to be friendly and efficient, which helps keep the experience smooth during busy periods.

Los Cuates Supermercado fits well into Hollister’s community as a practical hub for both grocery shopping and casual Mexican eats. It’s best suited for those who appreciate authentic flavors without the fuss of upscale presentation or for anyone needing a reliable spot to grab quality Mexican food any time of day.

Visited there yesterday to see what all the fuss was about -- it's a joint taqueria to the left of the market. Taqueria: The taqueria area is very clean and ready to serve people. The Market: It has a wide array of authentic Mexican foods and options, and is neatly organized. I was initially excited to go buy produce there, but the market was a little dirty, and some of the products seemed out-of-date / maybe expired/old, which detracted from the overall experience. The produce section is fine, though. The smell coming from the meat counter smelled like the meat wasn't very fresh. It seems like not as much attention is put on the market - I was kind of disappointed, because the pictures looked so great. I would recommend this place to clean up to improve their business-- it has so much potential, given that it is next to an eatery! Some of the price tags are also missing on their products - for example, I had to ask a staff member how much their freshly made salsas cost. There were 2 staff that were very attentive - one could probably tell I wasn't Latino so they tried to orient me and ask if I needed any help, in English. Then another staff member who came out of nowhere and started posturing about the "best" place / trying to sell me on some stuff, which was annoying at first as a shopper, because I could tell even they didn't really believe in it, but I tried to turn it around to a light and fun conversation, and we had a good exchange - they recommended me their favorite options in the taqueria and other places. I would recommend that they not harass shoppers so much in the future, however. They don't seem very short-staffed. They seem great at marketing and their unique value - differentiator from other Mexican/Latino-owned markets in town is that they are next to a taqueria -- if they can somehow keep leveraging this, and keep the place clean, clearing out old-outdated-expired products and featuring good, authentic high-vibrational ones, they are bound to have success!

The tacos hit super good, the asada fries… they don’t hold back on their portions and it’s perfect! Meat isn’t dry, tortillas are soft and they got horchata!!!

Not my favorite burrito place in town, but this time, it was really good. I had the shrimp burrito, and it was really tasty. The staff was nice and on top of it. My only issue was the loud music. I like music but not when it's so loud that you can't hear the conversations... Luckily, we had our order to go, so we didn't have to put up with the loud music for long...

Incredible food every time! The California Burrito (asada) is my favorite. They are open 24-hours too.

This place is really good! I typically get the pastor fries. Decently priced and they are usually pretty quick about getting orders out. I love they butcher their own meat so if you want / need meat that's already prepared or ready to season and cook, they have that too. Not to mention it also a market (Separate entrance) and that's were the butchers counter is located. The have a good selection of your Mexican food favorites and a bit more! Check them out and you won't be disappointed!
